Diamond State Chorus – Seeking Front Line Musical Director
The Diamond State Chorus (DSC) is seeking a frontline Musical Director to lead and inspire our enthusiastic chorus and take our musical talent to the next level. This is a contracted part-time position that includes a negotiable nominal salary.
Diamond State Chorus (a nonprofit) is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, and located in Wilmington, Delaware. Our 20-member chorus is comprised of residents from Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
DSC is a fun, dedicated group of women committed to singing many styles of a cappella music, including contemporary pop music and 4-part harmony barbershop-style arrangements.
Our achievements include:
- 2011, 2016, & 2017 Small Chorus Champions of the Atlantic Bay-Mountain Region 19 of Sweet Adelines International contests
- 2012 - Competed Internationally in the Harmony Classic Small Chorus Division A contest, placing 4th worldwide
- 2023 – Region 19 Regional Contest Audience Choice Award
Weekly rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings in Wilmington, DE, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Responsibilities of Chorus Director
- Plan and lead all weekly chorus rehearsals and annual retreat
- Develop short and long-term musical plans for the chorus in collaboration with the Music Team
- Prepare chorus for regional and international competitions
- Direct all public performances of the chorus or delegate to an assistant director when necessary
- Audition prospective members to determine voice placement or appoint a Music Team member to do so
- Involved in performance-related decisions including choreography, costuming, and makeup
- Collaborate with designated chorus members in planning chorus shows, community events, and other music-related fundraising activities (e.g. seasonal singing telegrams)
- Attend all Music Team meetings and appoint musical leadership
- In collaboration with Music Team select repertoire and outside coaches
- Attend educational conferences including Sweet Adelines Regional and International musical workshops
- Encourage development of aspiring quartets
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors by attending meetings when requested and consulting with the Board regarding chorus calendar and music-related expenditures.
Qualifications:
- Frontline choral directing education and/or experience
- A dynamic individual with strong organizational and leadership skills
- Understanding of the barbershop art form
- Creative and innovative thinker
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong teaching and communication skills
- Ability to inspire chorus members to develop and perform at their highest level
